It's pretty much done, so if you could register and create your characters while we have downtime I'll try to build some raid templates.

we'll be switching sooner rather than later from phpraid - this allows better control over the level 60-70 characters (though it still doesn't synch with Roster yet - perhaps Daffyd would like to have a look at hacking something together for that?). It also has the advantage that it's built to be modular, so we could in theory have a LoTRO, WAR, AoC, WoW etc etc etc all on the same planner.

EDIT - you have no characters, any you sign up now should go into the correct group.

Same as last time we tried it, the options aren't there. Last time it was no default group, I guess it's a different problem this time if you've already stuck my account in the relevant group.

Ok, character created but from 5 minutes playing with it...

No icons for anything but raids.
No taking into account CC.
SQL error when deleting a raid.
Only offers roles, no way to require a specific class.

Example: Heroic underbog. Say you specify 1 hybrid, 1 healer, 1 main tank, and 2 DPS and get a feral druid tank, paladin healer, 2 mages, and a shaman. You've fulfilled the role requirements but won't get past the first pull (my experience is pre-nerf admittedly).

The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion every planner out there is inadequate in one or more major ways. With 10 man raids and heroic instances crowd control is now a distinct role in itself and none of them take this into account.

The problem with having CC as a role is that different classes work as CC against different mobs, so effectively you then have different subclasses - as discussed in the above thread the ideal situation would be to be able to specify by class, then role (or vice versa) so you could have a warlock dps along which takes care of your demon/elemental CC.

It's not ideal, but as you point out there really isn't anything that 100% fits our needs out there, and I honestly don't have the time or the skills to code something like this from scratch.

Not what I mean. The raids display on the calendar as an icon, there are no icons for 5 man dungeons just for the raids.

Yup, taking my underbogs example again I'd want to be able to specify that we need at least 1 elemental CC. The planner should be programmed to know who can do that so if 2/3 DPS have signed up and neither have elemental CC it should not allow the third slot to be filled by anyone who doesn't fulfil that requirement.

I have the skill, I'm not willing to commit the time though. Doing it properly would take a few weeks so maybe at some future time (when I'm not grinding heroics) but not at the moment.

Not that I'm not grateful for the work you've put into getting this up, you know what a perfectionist I am with systems like this though.

I think the roles have been put there to prevent class elitism. Say if the role of tank is put down, then Pallys, Warriors, and Druids can all be held in the same regard. But if people can specify needed classes then it will obviously hold a priority in people's minds when creating a raid. Naturally due to stereotypes the priority would be warrior, druid and the pally. For example, I hardly ever consider shadow priests, shamans, balance druids, and prot pallys (well maybe since the new patch) when forming groups. This means if I was to form up a raid on the planner using only class specifics some people in the guild would hardly get a looking.

on another note, are we still using the old planner for now or are we using the new one straight away?

Keep on with the old one for now, as has been proved there is still work to do!

As for the icons I believe this may well be down to Blizzard not having icons for the 5 man stuff - the raid icons are taken from the Blizzard calendar. One way around the CC issue would be to specify in the raid/instance notes that you have specific requirements like that, and to set all signups to queue, and have the leader approve the most relevant parties. Again, just an idea.

Playing a bit with the roster I found a delete button and since I wanted to delete my entry I pressed it and it seems like I deleted the complete roster... Sorry about that.
