Just been talking with Altrurian on this one and we reckon we should make motions towards getting a BG team going.

It's been confirmed that patch 1.12 will bring world PvP back and, although I'm not holding my breath quite yet, cross server battlegrounds. There's big changes coming to the honor system aswell. Those who've tried bgs know full well that Arathor quite simply sucks for wait times on Alliance side making it unviable for a lot of people with time constraints like myself. Hopefully cross-server bgs will mean shorter wait times meaning we could use this as another method of bringing our high level players together and working more in teams.

I know there are those who don't like PvP and that's cool. I used to shy away from it, I detest duelling, but BG's are good fun and a nice distraction from the instance grind.

Anyone had any further thoughts on this? The few times I have managed to get in battlegrounds have been quite fun.

Hasn't really gone anywhere tbh Kris. At the moment it wouldn't be viable, we have enough trouble scraping together teams for 5 man instances let alone battlegrounds that have 1hr+ waiting times. I think we'll probably have to shelf it till cross-server battlegrounds come in.

Doesn't hurt to get as much practise in as possible though and by all means if you or anyone sees me online I'm open to joining an active bg.....so long as I have time to wait to get in.

Well, if you're wanting to get your PvP rank up or grind bg rep then it'll soon be time to do it. Remember the kiddywinks break up next week so the bg's will be chock full of brats to squish for a whole 6 weeks.

Definately mate. I'm probably going to hang up my instancing hat for a while till we can get some more 60's and priests onboard and concentrate on bg/pvp rep instead. With AV the way it is atm it's good to farm rep and the queues are slightly easier aswell. I'm likely to join an AV if I get chance to come on late at night when the missus has gone to bed already but failing that I'm usually always on Saturday daytime/monday night.

Nothing official, Rox and I have been hitting AV quite a bit recently although it's more a matter of timing there as far as I'm aware you can't join as a group. I'll keep an eye out for you if we are joining and give you a shout.

We're better of waiting till patch 1.12 arrives to form anything. At the moment the queues are unreasonable and tbh on arathor you're up against some pretty hardcore teams in wsg/ab. You can't join as a group for AV, the only thing you can do is join up at the same time and cross your fingers.

There's also the fact that they've altered the honor system slightly for 1.12, meaning that you're better off waiting till it's easier to climb the ranks.

Once we have cross server bgs and it's quicker and easier to get into it then we can do something, at the moment the wait times make it pointless.

News:

New Honor system allows you to 'rank up' at your own pace:

Quote
Chilton's mentions of "points" may confuse current WoW PvPers who are accustomed to the awkward ladder system the PvP grind entails. That system of gaining honor and ranking up is over with in Burning Crusade: "The Honor System in the expansion will no longer be a competitive ladder. The Honor System will be a system where you gain honor points a lot like you do today, but you then just use those honor points as a currency, effectively. That will include items that were previously earned through reputation. We'll kind of roll those into the Honor System, and it will also include a whole lot of new equipment for level 60 to 70 and beyond," Chilton says.

Arena teams:

Quote
Player versus Player combat will receive a major overhaul in Burning Crusade, one far greater than the upcoming cross-server battlegrounds system Blizzard recently detailed. Burning Crusade will introduce "Arena PvP." Lead designer Tom Chilton explains this new form of PvP: "It uses a team-based approach. So, much like forming a guild, you can form an arena team. You'll be able to go and get yourself an arena team charter; it can be for a 2-on-2 format, a 3-on-3 format or a 5-on-5 format." Chilton continues, "For example, for a 2-on-2 team you could have four people on the roster. For a 5-on-5 team you could have 10 people on a roster. You can have your substitutes, your benchwarmers, etc. And that should make it interesting, because we use a seasonal-based concept for the arenas. So you form your team, and your team may change in rating throughout the season. At the end of each week, based on your team's rating, you get a number of points that you can spend on the gear."

With these changes in mind I'm not going to bother continuing to level my PvP rank any further, I'm at Knight at the moment and it only gets harder from that point onwards with the current system. As it stands you have to devote far too much time without any breaks to achieve any sort of result. My aim wa to get to rank 10 but now I'm just going to let it slide till Burning Crusade arrives. I'll still have a pop at BG's when 1.12 arrives but only for rep-grind purposes if I can be arsed to do WSG/AB rep now that I've got exalted with AV.

With all that in mind I think we can safely say it's not worth forming battleground teams for now, it's better to wait for the new PvP system and especially the arenas.

More news, looking good......

Quote
With the upcoming expansion we will be introducing arena battles and to give you a better idea of what to expect, here are the rules:

You do not talk about arena battles.

When a player enters an arena battle, all buffs and conjured items are purged/deleted. This is done to ensure no outside buffs or items from members outside of your team are able to be used in an arena battle.

No consumables other than bandages and conjured items can be used while in the arena. There will be a waiting area similar to the current battlegrounds where players on the team will be able to conjure items and cast buffs.

Abilities/spells/items with cooldowns longer than 15 minutes cannot be used while in the arena.

Each arena team will be given a rating, and will be matched up in the arena queue against teams of a similar rating. As time progresses the matching system will broaden its search up to a limit if a closely rated team cannot be found.

Ratings adjustments are made in the same way that ELO ratings adjustments are made. This system works by adjusting each arena teams rating from a specific match based on the rating of the team they are up against. If a team wins against a team of a higher rating, the increase of their arena rating would be much higher than if they had won against a team of a lower rating. This system will help promote players improving their skill and besting teams which may have previously held the top spots.

At the end of each week, characters receive arena points based on their team's rating. A team must have fought a minimum number of battles for the week, which we have announced as currently set to 10 games. A player must have played in at least 30% of the team’s battles that week in order to be eligible to receive arena points. Each eligible player will then receive a fraction of the team’s total awarded points to spend on arena rewards.

Players may spend their points on arena rewards, or save their points until they have enough to get the rewards they desire.

There is a limit to the number of points a player can stockpile, which is currently planned to be as high as the most expensive item.

At the end of a season, players on a team are given a title based on their team’s relative position on the ladder which will last through the next arena season.

Holy thread revival, Batman!

Anyhoo, as some of you may have noticed I just got into the whole BG thang and was wondering how people would feel about putting a team together for WSG/AB? (I believe these can be entered as premades without any finger crossing etc)

Anyhoo, I've been (seemingly the only guild member) enjoying AB, but it'd be nice to have an organised one on TS...
