Gold to the guild??

I had sudden impact of what i think might be a good idea to get money for the guild. We could have a lottery or raffle or what it's called. Let's say that everone who want a chance to win some gold choose a number between 1-100 and post that in a specified thread on the forum. When that's done he/she sends 5, 10, or 15 gold or what ever we choose, to a char that acts like a temporary bank until draw a number and get a winner. Obviously we cant have a hundred ppl pick a number every week, so the winning conditions would be. If i where to decide that is.

"The right number or closest to the righ number wins. If 2 ppl are closest to the wining number they share the winings."

How's the guild gonna make a buck out of this u ask??

Simple, the bankchar takes 5 or 10% of the total betting sum and deposit it to the bankvault.
No one is forced to participate. This way i think we can get some more money in the guild with a simple chance of some cash prize.

The money would go to more bankslot's, raiding, potions and stuff.

Whilst its a good idea in principle I get the feeling it would always be the same people taking part (i.e. the people who donate money at will anyway or donate herbs or skills etc)

I'm not saying this would replace the donations. Just to make things more fun and maybe get some ppl that dont have that much money to take part in the guild. I'm for one wont donate less gold just because there might be a lottery every week. The opposite, i would donate and play the lottery for fun.

While a fine idea in an ideal world; we will only have a certain group of people funding more than their fair share of repairs etc, and it all starts to get rather difficult - and a little petty.  As it has been said this isn't the first suggestion for a lottery, and although I'm sure other guilds run them successfully, it's probably best to avoid something like this.  We have seen on a number of occasions that there is an undercurrent of animosity that can threaten to ruin a fun and fair guild.  Money affairs only bring trouble.

maybe a one time lottery, like on guild birthday. then you can start taking money for tickets a good time before and everyone gets time to decide if they want/doesnt want to be in

There isn't actually a need for money within the guild at pressent.  Theres no planns to buy any more tabbs and as a guild we don't give loans so we don't need the cash right now.

a guild lottery worked in one of my mages ex-guilds, but instead of picking a number you sent off 1g and were given a number. so if you had the first ticket you got 1 etc...
the draw was every sunday at a set and a in game warning was given an hour before the draw so everyone could get a ticket if they wanted. if you wanted to see the roll everyone joined a raid group.

it worked really well.

if the guild doesn't need the money now then give all the takings to the winner. or take a small amount and start to build up some cash?

erm as for the lottery idea....  it never caused any problems in the guild i was in as everyone had a chance to see the roll in the raid party and it was different ppl each week did the roll. And it isn't against blizzards rules as long as no-one takes a petty problem to the GM as they don't care, "<has a great body>" checked before starting it.

My biggest concern with all these ideas is 'Who would administer the idea?'  someone would have to deal with every aspect of it every week set time and place etc.  Thats one of the reasons we have steared clear of it.

Unless someone has a clear plan of how to run this and is willing to organise it regularly, I would say Amberley should stick her epic paladin boot down and knock this idea on the head.  It might work in other guilds but in a guild like ours (namely one with officers who can identify the potential problems with such schemes in advance ) it's not going to work smoothly.

Mainly my reasons are I don't have time to administer something like this and don't want to have to deal with all the complaints if someones number doesn't come up - plus in the end it will be the same members doing it every week:)
