Hunting for Dummies; Gear

"The Attumen Xbow is pap."

There, I said it.  I owned this piece of crud for 3 weeks, then got lucky on the sniper rifle from The Opera event.  The change was startling, made even better by the very cool appearance of the gun, versus the blue styrofoam appearance of the Xbow.

Style counts.

Anyhow, welcome to the wonderful world of Gear for Hunters; my pointers for a happier and healthier hunter gaming experience.  There are tons of way I could do this, but when it comes down to it, probably the best method is to go by where to get it.  On top of this, there is also the avenue you wish to travel, regarding Agility or raw damage.

Raw damage hunters pack AP and Crit as much as possible - makes for one hell of a gun platform, is the PvP preferred method, and while it suits Marksman hunters well, many BMs take this approach too.

Agility Hunters are a bit of a rarer breed, usually limited to only Survival Hunters - Agility does not give the raw power AP does, but it boosts Crit, Armour and Dodge, too - Typically geared Hunters feel good about breeching 600 Agility, with T6 BM hunters appraoching 700.  Only on Sunwell Hunters, and the occasional Looney, do you see this figure exceed 750.  If the Agility is going that high, it typically means that the hunter is going to spec Survival, or is actually concerned with other areas of game play rather than damage.

So, let's find some gear!

Location; Location; Location![/u]

This is surprisingly easy, as there are really only 5 distinct methods of locating loot reliably that will be any use - in each method mentioned, I'll highlight the options available.  Also note that this guide is more geared towards the Marksman or BM hunter - survivalists can often go to extreme lengths to get the kit they want, but that is a different story.

AH/Craftables - Gems, Guns and Armour.[/i]

Gem-wise, AP, Crit, Agility and to a lesser extent Stamina are your friends.  That covers all the colours, making getting the meta of choice, the Relentless Earthstorm Diamond, working is very easy.  An orange, Green and Purple gem will get this working - it really is that simple, and for 12 Agility and 3% added Critical damage, it's worth it.

Gems to Consider
16 AP; 20 AP (Red)
8 AP/4 Crit; 10 AP/5 Crit (Orange)
8 AP/6 Stamina; 10 AP/7 Stamina (Purple)
4 Crit/6 Stamina; 5 Crit 7 Stamina (Green)
8 Crit; 10 Crit (Yellow)

Agility-Freaks
8 Agility; 10 Agility (Red)
4 Agility/4 Hit; 5 Agility/5 Hit (Orange)
4 Agility/6 Stamina; 5 Agility/7 Stamina (Purple)

Guns-wise, or to say it more generally, weapons-wise, Craftables cost a huge amount of money - You are looking at alot of cash to get even the basic items that will make you better, and frankly, there are better items out there.  The Gyro-Balanced Khorium Destroyer is a popular PvP gun with both Hunters and Warriors, but frankly, it costs tons.  The FelSteel Longblade, which also manages to look very cool, is also a money sink.  And frankly, the Belt of the Black Eagle, a BT pattern drop that usually costs around 1500g?  Or more?  The PvP Belts are better.  Look elsewhere.

More to follow - next; Badge Items!

I trying to get as much as possible agility on my hunter. I have around 630 agi atm and if I chance my chest I have around 670 agi. That is just in badge/crafted gear, I only have 2 Tier items.

Hitrating is also important for a hunter. I am (nearly) hit capped so I never miss a shot in the raids SoG does.
Haste rating is also very nice. Don't worry to much about haste when you're just 70 but when you have some decent kara gear, maybe some badge stuff, take a look at it. Don't expect high speed increases but the few more shot you do during a boss fight increases your dps. The better your gear the bigger is the effect of haste rating.

correct me if I am wrong about haste rating

Basing my theory entirely on mage mechanics...

Get hitcapped, then get haste gear.

Aye - A hit rating for hunters should read 142 to keep peeps happy.

@ Jo - Hun, you "only" have 2 pieces of Tier Gear - I have none! \o/

I have the T4 helm and T5 shoulders so no set bonus. I really like the 4 piece set bonus of both T5 and T6 set. I am aiming to get four pieces of T6, not that I will ever get them, so for now I "only" have 2 pieces of tier gear.
