WoW Keyloggers, Beware.
« on: September 09, 2006, 05:21:57 PM »
Hey there.

I recently aquired a keylogger under the name of "svchqs.exe"

I got this after clicking on a link on the official WoW forum.

Just giving everyone the heads-up.  If you click on a link that comes up with the standard broken IE message, check your system32 folder right away for this little bastard.

It's a key logger that becomes active when WoW is loaded, and sends what you type in to the creator of the worm.

Luckily, my firewall recognized this and I had a chance to block it and delete it in safe mode; but others have not been so lucky.

I have doubts whether the information would have been any use anyway, seeing the logger was most likely intended for US users, not EU players.  Better to be safe than sorry anyway :-)

Cheers for the heads-up. Just as an FYI the difference between the US and EU version is one line in an .ini from what I've heard, end even if not the perps behind this will no doubt have people on EU servers too...
