Sorry for not updating, sudden family and friends-visits are holding my free time as hostage
My internet is finally back, so here it is. I will update this guide soon, i think sunday will be the first update.
Alright, my name sings around when someone asks a question about Deathknights.
That made me make this guide.
What this guide does:It guides you into a solid talentspec which gives you the chance to do massive dps, if you take that chance or not is your choise.
It gives you enough insight into the class to make yourself independent of my advise. You should be able to analize stats and equipment to gain the better out of it.
What it will not do:It will not give you solid dps, that is something you need to work for yourself. I only give you the lever, you need to pull it.
It will not make you a happy Deathknight. The only way to become a happy Deathknight is by finding a playstyle you enjoy. Test mine out and find your own, i really dont care which one you take.
First off, lets see whats in it:
- I) Before we start--Addons, layout, and the likes.
- II) Basic Class Knowledge--Basic stats, attacks, tricks and treats
- III) DPS
- IV) Tanking
Note
Most guides online use shorts for abilities. I always got confused by it so i decided not to do that. Icy Touch will not be changed into IT, it will stay Icy Touch.
(I) Before we start (I)
Addons Alright, i'm not here to dictate your UI, i dont even want to. This section is ment to show you what helped me being a better DK.
Here is my ui during one of our last Ulduar raids:
For the image without the text explanation, click here
None of the addons are only for DK's. With "DK specific" i point to addons that actually make a difference to your DK, besides being very handy for all players and classes.- Ora -- Raid addon, shows important stuff, not a DK specific addon
- Omen -- Again, raid addon, shows you if you are close of
taking agro dieing. Not a DK specific addon - Recount -- Raid addon, shows you how good you are doing your job as dps. Not a DK specific addon
- Big Wigs -- Raid addon, if you ask me, needed when you want to raid. It shows you what a boss is doing and gonna do. Not a DK specific addon
- MikScrollingBattleText-- A very cool addon, esp together with the next one. Shows you damage done to you, by you, heals done to you, by you and your cooldowns in a very confient way. Try it out together with the next addon: Not a DK specific addon.
- Icehud -- DK specific addon: this one will show you your health, your pet (ghoul)'s health, the mob's health and all mana, energy, rage and runepower. Besides that it will also show your runes in the middle of the screen. Very confient, as the old, original place of the runes was a bit off. Now you dont have to take your eyes off the middle of the screen.

- Ratingbuster -- Probarly the best Addon you will ever use. DK specific addon. This addon will tell you in a small tooltip if a new piece of gear is better for your class then what you currently have equipped. It really works!
So, with atleast Ratingbuster installed you should be able to compare your own gear with stuff you see. That will certaintly help alot.
(II) Basic Class Knowledge (II)
Starting a DKAlright, you rolled a Deathknight. That means you should already have one class above lvl 55, which shows you have atleast a basic knowledge about playing the game. That doesnt mean that you played a Plate-dps before, nor that you are a pro.
Growing into a class is one of the reasons why there are 60 levels before the "real" content. This point makes playing a Deathknight so much fun, but also shows why so many retards are playing it too. For some players 25 levels (from 55 to 80) is just not enough to grow into a class.
My first tip: Pay attention to your questline when you start your DK. Blizzard really stuffed all the facts and tips you need into those 3 levels. Besides, its one of the parts with the better storylines, you should enjoy it and read it all.
A Deathknight is a lord of death, master of diseases, being able to use Blood, frost and unholy powers makes your devistate your surrounding.
This beginning is what you should have in your mind at all time. Never be delicate, be brutal. Use anything you can, plan as less as you can afford. Make sure everyone knows you are there, if they don't, you are screwing up.
Our damage. The damage of a Deathknight comes from 3 sources:
- Diseases
- Autoattack
- Special (spell) attacks
These you apply while doing special attacks. Diseases should be your primary goal in a fight. Diseases increase your damage on other attacks and do damage themselves. A bonus in this field is using
Pestilence to spread your
love diseases.
no comment needed, just right click a mob and it will bash.
Oh wait:
always stand behind a mob/boss to get maximal damage. Why? When you are behind a boss he wont be able to parry or block your attack.
These will do the most dps, when you do them right. Depending on your talents you will have different special attacks, some of them using magic.
Our stats NOTE: this are DPS stats, for Tanking stats i must refer you to the tanking sectionSo, you are gearing up, what kind of items are you interested in?
This is a list, making the highest noted the best you want
- Hit rating
- Strenght
- Attackpower
- Crit Rating
- Armor Penetration
- Stamina
- Agility
So basicly what we want is: First, enough hit rate to hit a boss, you should be aiming at around 295-300, this is your main priority.
Second, enourmous amount of strenght and attackpower to give our attacks as many damage as we can. Why strength before Attackpower? Because Strenght is a primary stat, meaning that it will be increased by
Blessing of Kings, attackpower is not affected by such things.
After that we are heading for Critrating. Crits are great, you want that critrating.
The last few stats are fun to have, but not as important as the rest.
This is where the guide ends for now, i will continue it soon with a DPS part and a Tanking part.
