Underwater Combat
« on: April 18, 2010, 03:03:41 PM »
This one looks like fun  :D

Vashj'ir - Underwater Combat
We're working to ensure combat, breathing and travel are less cumbersome in this underwater zone than many of you may be thinking. The zone is quite large with a great deal of quest content and exploration to be done. In many areas you'll really get a deep ocean feel, but since you're questing down there, we want to make sure underwater gameplay is greatly improved. (source)

Yeah, not sure how they intend to do this.  I certainly hope movement is slightly faster i.e. walking speed at least.  As for combat I would like to see some sort of auto-lock feature, so that the camera and player swing round towards your current target, this would make things a hell of a lot easier than the current method of having to scan around for where that bloody murloc harpoon is coming from.  Tabbing would rotate the view around all surrounding enemies.  The player would then be positioned to move forward immediately with "w", without having to "point" the character direction up or down.  This is the only way I can imagine combat working in a 3rd dimension as well as it works in 2 (land), though I can imagine many people would prefer a slower but less easy mode whereby only the camera moves.  Click-to-move might become useful too.

Gieff engi submarines :) Am wondering what bliz is going to invent to get this thing running smothly because like chol said targeting and finding things under water isn't the most fun thing to do. And if you have a spear throwing murloc on you and getting to him takes a good 15 mins fun's over pretty fast

Underwater spells arent working! i don't think they'll be able to do anything about this, possibly put them in a bubble or something?

Fireballs underwater just dont make sense!

Can see the image before me a fireball in a bubble floating towards the target. If they float at the speed of normal bubbels i'm hoping clothies get extra hp in that zone

Or you might see a line of steam behind the fireball. Also hunters who fire guns underwater, gonna see some exploding guns.

Yea, in other words hunters will be melee-ing underwater :P or need to stack strength in order to force those arrows trough the water
