Could well just have been a slightly loose fan connector from transit, and it's settled back in place in all honesty. Good stuff anyways - here's hoping you can get a few years of good use out of it!

Can anyone recommend a decent GPU monitor program?  GPU-Z is mentioned quite a bit through google searches but it would be handy if I knew someone who was currently using a reliable program.

GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner for free, AIDA64 if you're paying.

I love MSI Afterburner myself, it shows on my g15.

On a side note, let me ask a question: I've been overclocking my GPU (since it is a overclocked edition) but recently it has been dropping back to standard clocks without notice. Both MSI afterburner and Catalyst Control Center are set to 905 mhz but after about 1-2 hours of on-time the card drops to 500 mhz and sticks there. Its getting really annoying since the only thing that works is restarting the computer and the difference between 905 and 500 mhz is about 15-20 fps in WoW.  (fyi: a standard 4890 runs on 500mhz, mine should be running standard on 900mhz and i've overclocked him all the way up to 975 mhz in the past (but due to some games not being able to handle that, glitching textures, i stopped doing that)

Ok went with MSI, cheers.  Seeing as I only want this to monitor the temp for the time being, I assume it will not change any of the original card settings so long as I leave everything alone?

Sorry, thought I'd replied to this: Yes, you can use Afterburner just to monitor temps.

As for Dar - sounds like either buggy drivers (what version are you running?) or thermal throttling combined with buggy drivers.

Cheers Splish, after watching the temp for a few days I'm happy with the cooling, just wanted to be sure MSI wasn't doing anything to the settings.
