I'm actually toying with the idea of rolling a huntard at the moment, but I might just wait and have a shufty at the Dranei in 6 weeks.

6 FRICKIN WEEKS!! and a day. How odd to release on a Tuesday...

Pet DPS is based on four principles - pet class, base pet damage, hunter damage capability and smart pet usage.  The first three are simple, the latter is not.

For the first three, you are either looking at a Cat or Ravager, unless you can get the macro working well in which case a Wind Serpent is excellent.

Then again, a dead pet does no DPS.

I use Mjolnir (possibly the most famous pet on Arathor? Bwahaha!), a Raiding Wolf I tamed back in the Hinterlands pre-TBC (no, I did it the hard way, not just bagging Rema like many other hunters did).  Wolves are a much more balanced pet, with better survivability than the main DPS pets... and yet it is a rare day that hunters with similar gear to me can out damage an even dose of "Woofie Time".

Short answer?  Cat or Ravager.  Long answer?  The pet that works best for you.
"Aryina roars with fury, Mjolnir howls with joy".

"Though I may hunt through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I shall fear no evil, for I am the angriest bitch in it, with a wolf to match..."
